Dealey was bright and warm in the midday sun. This small patch of grass, surrounded on all sides with tall buildings, was filled with people from all walks of life – rich, poor, old young, black, white… The crowds waited excitedly for the motorcade to arrive. As they waited, people smoked, talked, listened to portable radios. This would be their only chance to see the president. After the fear brought by the start of this new war overseas, they were looking forward to something to brighten their lives.
