Mortal Engines – Chapters 12, 13 & 14

 

At Airhaven, Shrike attempts to kill Hester and Tom but they manage to escape in a stolen airship. It emerges that Hester has previously known Shrike. Airhaven is engulfed in fires.

After her parents were killed, Hester had been saved by Shrike. He nursed and taught her for five years.

Despite their attempts, Shrike has followed them and catches up.

Meanwhile, Katherine attempts to speak to Crome about MEDUSA but he dismisses her enquiries.

Literary devices

Dynamic character – a character who CHANGES in the story.

Static character  – one who does not change.

Multiple narratives – a story told from more than one point of view.
