The Merchant of Venice – Act 5.1

Portia, Bassanio, Gratiano, Nerissa, Antonio

The gist The women accuse the men of giving away their wedding rings. They then say they have the rings, and they obtained them by sleeping with the two lawyers. The men accuse the women of betrayal. The women reveal that they were the lawyers and have tricked the men to test their faith.

“if I be left alone, now by my honour, I’ll have that doctor for my bedfellow” – Portia
