The Sonnet Contest is still open and I would encourage everyone to have a shot. It will be valuable to your understanding of poetic form, meter and stress, as well as being a satisfying task in its own right. It is an immense pleasure to look back at a piece of completed poetry that you have worked hard at.
I appreciate it is difficult, but the rewards (aside from potential prizes) are great.
“I’d like to eat a bag of Walker’s crisps;
a plate of crackers with some cheese and ham.”
You could have a go at finishing those lines of doggerel which I have just dashed off, inspired by my missed lunch today.
